Meet our Governors
Samantha Dixon
Sam joined Barnsley College as a Governor in August 2025.
Sam has a thirty-year career in the voluntary sector in regional and national charities including Barnardo's, The Prince's Trust, Age UK. She has spent the last 13 in senior leadership roles , mostly for cancer charities, including as CEO of South Yorkshire cancer charity, Weston Park Cancer Charity, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and, nowadays, at Make 2nds Count, a national charity supporting those affected by secondary (incurable) breast cancer.
A strong advocate for social justice and the belief that everyone deserves the best chance of fulfilling their potential regardless of their start in life ,her volunteering roles have included mentoring with the Prince's Trust (supporting young people in long-term unemployment),previously as a Local Governing Committee and SEND link member at a local secondary school, and a volunteer English tutor for Action Tutoring. She is the Chair of South Yorkshire-based charity, The Snowdrop Project, which supports and empowers survivors of modern slavery.
As a passionate believer in lifelong learning Sam recently completed her Masters degree and is learning French. She keeps her knowledge updated as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.
In her free-time Sam still chases around after three adult sons, enjoys reading, walking, running, netball and dance and has lived in South Yorkshire for 23 years.
